KAREN KAR YEN LAW: BETTER BITTER
Markham-based artist Karen Kar Yen Law 羅加欣 works primarily with monoprints, blending the structured layers of printmaking with the fluid expressiveness of painting. Law’s work is deeply shaped by her Chinese heritage, particularly its cuisine, where balance in flavour—such as the transformation of bitterness—is essential. For more information, click below.

HELP KEEP HYDRANTS CLEAR
Be a good neighbour and help keep fire hydrants accessible. In an emergency, every second counts. Remove any snow and ice from the hydrant, clear 3 feet around the hydrant, and clear a path from the hydrant to the street.

AVIAN INFLUENZA ALERT
If you come across a sick or dead bird, protect yourself from avian influenza. Avoid touching the bird and keep pets away from birds and their droppings. There are reports of suspected avian flu affecting geese in the Markham area, specifically:
- Markham-Country Glen Pond
- McCowan Freeman Pond
- Saunders Pond
- Fairtree Pond
- Please stay cautious and keep your pets on a leash.

LIGHT BULB RECYCLING
Effective March 4, Markham Recycling Depots will no longer accept light bulbs. Instead, please drop off at a York Region Household Hazardous Waste Depot for recycling, at no charge to you. Click below for more information.

WOMEN’S CENTRE OF YORK REGION (WCYR) FREE SERVICES
The WCYR is a community-based not for profit organization that started in 1977 to support women and their families to break barriers, overcome challenges of trauma and abuse, and build brighter futures. Through group education, workshops, counselling services, peer support, and case management, the WCYR supports women and their families with employment, mental health, housing and the necessities of life. York Region offers subsidies for recreation programs, day camps and youth overnight camps.
