FREE LUNAR NEW YEAR ACTIVITIES AT THE VARLEY ART GALLERY

Welcome the Year of the Dragon with a colourful blend of culture, arts, and storytelling this February at the Varley Art Gallery!

Lunar New Year Weekend – Drop-in on Saturday and Sunday, February 10 and 11, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, for free, engaging family activities.  Registration is not required.

LunarFest – Drop-in on Saturday and Sunday, February 17 and 18, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, for free family activities including games and workshops. Registration is not required.

Lunar Lanterns – FREE Mondays to Sundays, January 21 to March 3 – Explore the lunar lanterns in the courtyard where each one tells a unique story, casting a warm glow to symbolize new beginnings and a bright new year!

FREE MARKHAM CIVIC CENTRE OUTDOOR SKATING RINK NOW OPEN

Enjoy this quintessential Canadian tradition with family and friends! It was an honour to have helped officially open the rink in December 2011, in my former role as the local Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), with a provincial contribution of $1 million.

There is always something exciting and engaging happening at the Markham Museum and listed below are some of the ways you can enjoy and support the Museum, open Wednesday to Sunday.  For more information, please visit:

2) VISIT SOME OF THE TEMPORARY AND PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS

Home. Place. Belonging. Explore, learn, and listen to the stories, traditions, and knowledge of the diverse Chinese Canadian community from Markham and York Region. On until February 25, 2024.

As the editorial cartoonist of local papers for 40+ years, the art of Pat Wheeler paints a picture of Markham and Stouffville development from the 1960’s to 2010’s.

From the Ground Up: A showcase of archaeological discoveries from excavations conducted on the Markham Museum grounds.

3) REGISTER FOR WINTER 2024 PROGRAMS

Registration is still open for a diverse range of high-quality, affordable programs, classes and workshops at the Museum, highlighting technologies such as pottery, metal working, and textiles. Program offerings include:

  • Pre-school, children and teens programs
  • Family and adult an older adult programs
  • Camps and holidays programs
  • And more!

Note: The free Winter 2024 Older Adult Classes are now fully registered.

Generations of donors, members and volunteers have worked together to support the Markham Museum.  Contributions have expanded the collections, created exciting galleries and exhibitions, funded curatorial research expeditions around the world, and created stimulating programs for children. 4) RENT SPACE AT THE MUSEUM

Unique and historical indoor and outdoor spaces within the Museum’s 25-acres are perfect for unforgettable celebrations including weddings, birthdays, family get-togethers, barbecues, parties, photography site visits, and so much more! They range from the Transportation Hall which holds up to 150 people banquet style to the 1000 sq. feet covered Pavilion that holds up to 120 people theatre style.

WINTER CAN BE UNPREDICTABLE.  ARE YOU READY?
